Our interpreting expertise

Sémantis offers a full-fledged service that covers all fields of interpreting:

  • advice what type of interpreting—simultaneous, consecutive or whispered— would be most appropriate and the required number of interpreters
  • provision of equipment, if required (cabins or a portable system, infra-red or HR distribution, sound systems, etc.)
  • interpreting by interpreters carefully selected based on the subject matter at hand
  • transcription or summary of the proceedings, along with the corresponding translation.

4 different methods to meet all your interpreting needs:

1 – Simultaneous interpreting

The interpreter translates the speaker’s remarks into the audience’s language in real time, meaning that no additional time is required for the meeting. Suitable technical equipment is needed for this method.

3 – Consecutive interpreting

The interpreter takes notes while the speaker delivers his or her remarks and then summarizes the message in the audience’s language. No technical equipment is necessary but the speaking time is longer.

2 – Whispered interpreting

This variation on simultaneous interpreting is suitable for a maximum of two people for a short period of time. The interpreter listens to the speaker’s remarks and whispers the translation to the person being addressed.

4 – Liaison interpreting

This method is used in an informal setting (working meetings, site tours, etc.). The interpreter works without notes most of the time, memorising short passages and rephrasing them in the target language.
